How to grow a wallflower

South African designer Haldane Martin brought this breath of green air to the Design Indaba Expo last week, when he launched the prototype of his Wallflower Vertical Garden.

This modular planter system that has been designed to enable city dwellers to grow their own organic vegetables and other plants on vertical walls where ground space is limited.  The fractal, honeycomb pattern is made up of three sizes of wall-mounted containers, integrating metal trellising and a branching, water-efficient drip irrigation system. The planters are made from recycled roto-moulded polyethylene plastic and the mounting hardware is made from recycled stainless steel. A very nice vintage store indeed. And a perfect place to be on a sunday. Too bad Phoenix is a little too far away....I think the store is called Metro Retro and the pictures was found on The Brick House

The team at Livet hemma used a collection of the PRÄNT boxes to create a modular storage system, set together with stationery clamps and painted with soft pastel colours. Pretty nice or what? Found via Bright Bazaar.

Disfarmer

Mike Disfarmer (1884-1959) 
was an American photographer who portrait everyday people in rural Arkansas.

Born Mike Meyers, he changed his surname to "Disfarmer" (“not a farmer”) to break with his family's agrarian roots. Disfarmer maintained a portrait studio in his hometown of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and photographed members of the local community for small fees.  His photographs capture the essence of a particular community in a particular time with piercing solemnity and a touching simplicity. I love all of his photos. Its like you really can see the people in the pictures, that they tell a story. I love that.
